Is My Dental Implant Quote Fair? What to Check Before You Sign

How to read a dental implant quote from a UK dentist or a clinic abroad: what it should include, the red flags, and how to have it checked free by specialists.

Key Takeaways

A fair dental implant quote names the implant brand, includes the abutment, crown, scan and any extractions or grafting, and is based on an X-ray or 3D scan, not photos alone. If your quote is missing any of these, the final bill can rise. You can have any quote checked free through our Quote Check.

  • A complete quote covers the implant, abutment, crown, scan, extractions, grafting, temporary teeth and reviews.
  • An unnamed implant system is a warning sign, because no UK dentist can service what nobody can identify.
  • A price from photos is only tentative. The final price should follow a scan, with extras priced in advance.
  • A single implant with a crown typically costs £1,500 to £3,800 at a UK private dentist in 2026.
  • Our free Quote Check reviews any quote, from the UK or abroad, and replies within 24 hours.

What should a dental implant quote include?

A complete quote covers every stage of treatment, not just the implant post. Check yours for each of these:

  • The implant brand and system Straumann and Nobel Biocare are established systems that UK dentists know and can service. Neodent is Straumann’s value brand. An unnamed implant is a warning sign.
  • The abutment This is the connector between the implant and the crown. Some quotes leave it out, then add it later.
  • The crown and its material Zirconia or porcelain fused to metal, and whether the price is for the permanent crown or a temporary one.
  • The scan A 3D scan, called a CBCT, shows the bone your implant needs. Without one, nobody can fix a final price.
  • Extractions Any teeth that need to come out first.
  • Bone grafting Often needed where bone has shrunk after a tooth was lost. It can add a large sum, so it should be priced in advance even when it is not certain.
  • Temporary teeth and reviews What you wear while the implant heals, and how many check ups are included.
  • Aftercare and warranty What happens if something fails, and who looks after you once you are home.
  • How do you know if the price is fair?

Compare like for like. In 2026 a single implant with a crown typically costs £1,500 to £3,800 at a UK private dentist, and All-on-4 runs £10,000 to £18,000 per arch. Our full cost breakdown sets out the ranges for India and the UK side by side.

A quote far below those ranges is not automatically a bargain. It may leave out the abutment, the scan or the grafting, or use an implant system with no support in the UK. A quote far above them may include work you do not need, or a premium system where a standard one would do. The headline number tells you very little until you know what sits behind it.

Which red flags mean you should get a second opinion?

Any one of these is a reason to pause before paying a deposit:

  • A quote from a selfie A price from photos can only be tentative. A final price needs an X-ray or scan.
  • A wide range instead of a price A range tells you the clinic has not committed to anything yet.
  • No implant brand named You cannot judge quality, or have the implant repaired in the UK, if nobody tells you what it is.
  • Pressure to pay today A good clinic gives you time to compare.
  • No price list for extras If the scan or the surgery finds something new, you should already know what it costs.
  • Is a quote from photos enough?

Photos are enough for a tentative price, and that is how we start too. The final price should come only after a scan is read, with any extras priced in advance, so the bill you pay matches the price you were told. Why a scan comes before the final price explains the steps.

What should you ask before you sign?

Put these questions to any dentist or clinic, in the UK or abroad, and ask for the answers in writing:

  • Is this the full price for the whole treatment, across every visit?
  • Which implant system will you use, and can a UK dentist service it?
  • What does this price leave out?
  • What happens if the scan or the surgery finds something new?
  • Who looks after me once I am home?
  • Why do UK dentists see so many problems from treatment abroad?

The British Dental Association found that 94% of UK dentists have examined patients returning from dental work abroad, and 86% of those had to treat complications. Many of those journeys started with an incomplete quote and a price that changed in the chair. The BDA sets out the risks.

Treatment abroad is not the problem in itself. Clinics in India and elsewhere carry out excellent work every day. The problem is booking on a number you do not understand, with nobody accountable when the number moves.

Can someone check my quote for free?

Yes. Our Quote Check is a free review of a quote you already have, from a UK dentist or a clinic abroad. Specialist dentists at our partner clinics read it line by line and check the plan against your photos or X-ray, then we send you a fixed price for the same treatment to compare, within 24 hours.

If your quote is complete and fairly priced, we will tell you so. There is no obligation to book.

    Frequently asked questions

How much should one dental implant cost in the UK?

    +

Typically £1,500 to £3,800 at a UK private dentist in 2026, including the crown. Prices vary with the implant system, the region and whether a scan, extraction or bone graft is needed.

Is a cheaper quote abroad always worse?

    +

No. Clinics in India price lower because their costs are lower, not because the work is worse. What matters is that the quote is complete, names the implant system and is fixed in writing after a scan.

Can a dental quote change after I arrive?

    +

It should change only for things a scan could not show. A fair clinic prices those possible extras in advance, so you know the cost before you agree to anything.

Who can check my dental quote for free?

    +

Our Quote Check reviews any implant or treatment quote for free. Specialist dentists at our partner clinics check what it includes and leaves out, and you receive a fixed price to compare within 24 hours.
